Plateau state witnessed yet another bloody New
Year celebration as two persons were reportedly
killed, while 16 others were gravely injured when a
group of gunmen, on Wednesday morning invaded
the Church of Christ in Nations at Maiakworigold
Maikatako village of Bokkos Local Government
Council of the state.
Another person was said to have been killed in
Manguna area of Bokkos Local Government of the
state, also on Wednesday morning.
The gunmen alleged to be Fulani herdsmen,
reportedly stormed the COCIN Church,
Maiakworigold Maikatako, shooting sporadically,
leading to the death of the two people, while 16
others sustained various degrees of injuries in a
resultant stampede.
The other person who was killed in Manguna area
of the same local council was reportedly killed by
the fleeing gunmen.
An eyewitness, Mr. Augustine Bim, while speaking
with newsmen divulged that during the service to
usher in the New Year, some gunmen attacked the
church, shooting at all directions, and causing
pandemonium.
Confirming the report, Speaker, Plateau State House
of Assembly, Mr. Titus Alams, who confirmed the
incident, described the incident as unfortunate.
Alams, a member representing Bokkos State
constituency, said that five of the victims had been
admitted at the Plateau State Specialist Hospital.
Confirming that they are in a stable condition, he
said 11 people were equally receiving treatment at
Barkin Ladi General Hospital.
He said, “This latest incident is regrettable because
we have been doing a lot to sustain the current
peace we are enjoying in the state. We are
appealing to security agents to do everything in their
power to fish out those responsible for this heinous
crime against humanity.”
