With the Super Eagles set to start their World Cup
campaign against Iran on Monday night, we take a look at
five players the Super Eagles would need to watch out for
in Group F.
Sergio Kun Aguero (Argentina)
One player the Eagles defence would need to watch out for
is Sergio Aguero. The Manchester City forward is a deadly
and prolific forward who loves running at defenders.
With 21 goals in 51 matches for Argentina and a fine
European form, Sergio Aguero would surely be a handful for
the Nigerian defence.
Although his Premier League season was marred by a
stubborn injury, Aguero still went to help City win the EPL,
scoring 17 goals in 23 games.
Angel Di Maria (Argentina)
Di Maria would be no new player to the Nigerian defence.
His exquisite goal against Nigeria in Beijing 2008 was
enough to win Argentina the Olympic Gold medal.
A player who has unarguably been in fine for European
Champions Real Madrid, Di Maria would be a threat to any
team. The midfielder adds dribbling skills to his pacy and
vision driven game.
On his day, Di Maria can make that needed difference like
he did in the Champions League final against Atletico
Madrid.
Reza Ghoochannejhad ( IRAN)
Despite been tagged the whipping boys of Group F, Iran
could surprise many like they have done qualifying for the
World Cup. One player whose help would be needed to do
well at the World Cup is Reza Ghoochannejhad.
The Dutch-Iranian born footballer is a striker who could
prove difficult when the Super Eagles of Nigeria takes on
Iran on Monday night.
Having played several European clubs like Henreveen,
Cambur, Go Ahead Eagles, Standard Liege and now Charlton
Athletic, Ghoochannejhad would have the right experience
to play any team in the World Cup
Ghoonechannejhad goals against Qatar, Lebanon and South
Korea helped Iran qualify for the World Cup.
Edin Dzeko (Bosnia and Herzegovina)
With 35 goals in 61 international appearance and a strong
presence in Europe, Edin Dzeko is surely one match to
watch in Group F.
The Manchester City forward took advantage of injuries to
Sergio Aguero and Alvaro Negredo, scoring 16 goals in the
EPL. Dzeko is a player that has got the strength and
height to trouble any defender.
The lanky forward is also a record breaker having
surpassed Zvjezdan Misimović and Elvir Bolić to becoming
Bosnian highest goalscorer of all time. He was also key to
Bosnia and Herzegovina qualifying for the World Cup,
having scored 10 goals on the road to Brazil.
Lionel Messi (Argentina)
Well, there is not much to say about a player who is
already to many, a god of football. The four-time World
Footballer of the Year needs no introduction or broadcast
of his potential. He is a threat to any kind of football team.
